What Makes A Good Music Video?

There are specific areas of a music video that makes it interesting and unique. For example, their use of varied camera angles/shots, talented actors/musicians, intriguing lighting techniques for effective displays and sometimes even animation or computer effects. Because of these areas and the vast uses within them means that no two music videos are alike making them all unique.

A prime example of a song using appropriate lighting to create effect would be 'Watch Over You' by Alter Bridge. The intro to the song is in minor key therefore creating a dim/dull and vivid dark feel in relation to sadness. This feel would be harder to approach if the lighting was not sensible and did not relate to the song at all. Also the dominant colours within this video are black and white.

Another specific focus area on music videos is the speed of the shots. If a song uses slower shot transitions it is most probably because the song is of a slower tempo or the meaning of the song is consumed at a slow pace. On the other hand, a song of a more allegro tempo would be more than expected to use shots of a faster pace. For example, heavy metal band Slipknot use fast paced shots an a majority of their videos like the shots in the video of their song 'Psychosocial'.

Computer effects and animation are not as commonly used in music videos but can be extremely successful if used well and appropriately. The most common band known to use animation would be Gorillaz. They use animation instead of actors or themselves in all of there songs. This is effective because the music material that they produce is suitable for the animation that they create and therefore gives birth to an interesting and unique series of music videos.

Amateur animated music video of 'Dead' by My Chemical Romance. This is visual proof that amateur music videos are becoming common as animation and that they are becoming more interesting for others to watch.

Lip Sync - In The Sun

WWW - Most of our lip syncing was in time so that it gave the impression that we were the               ones singing.
            - Most of us learned the lyrics so that we knew what were singing and when to come                in on time.
            - There is a good presence of performance so that audience fatigue is not affected.

EBI - We had a wider variety of shots to work with to help us choose from more material.
       - We had all of us in the shot at once to show that feeling of a moderato feel.
       - Some of our mouth movements were clearer and more exaggerated so that the audience can see what we are singing and to help us show that we are in time.

My First Lip Sync - Song 2 by Blur

WWW- throughout the majority of the song our lip syncing was near enough spot on and even though this is our first task a few of the instruments were in sync as well.
- also some of the shots that we decided to use were appropriate and all of them were clear and easy to understand
- another good thing about our lip sync is that our lips are exaggerated so they are clear to see the words we are singing.

EBI- if all of our lip syncing was spot on and we had more material to use to help us with this.
- we sorted out the lighting problem in most of our shots so that it is easier to see us.
- We had a better location to film in so it seemed more realistic
